She found him, and not for the first time. At first, it seemed like fate conspired to keep her near him, to keep him on the path he had to take for the good of the world. But as he stood there at the edge of the Western Air Temple, looking out from a place he once could call home, she knew that fate had nothing to do with it.
"Aang." She put her hand on his shoulder, so strong for a boy his age. No, not a boy; no boy could ever hope to carry the burden that was his, and despite his flighty attitude, his light and cheery nature, he'd had to grow up so much. Just like they all had to, thanks to the war. "Look at me."
He turned his head towards her, his big eyes reflecting her face clearly, letting her see her own feelings from his perspective. Once, there was a time when what she saw would have shocked her, surprised her, caused her to flinch back. But not this time. This time, she knew full well her own feelings for him and how they and nothing else drove her to be so close to him. "No matter what, I will always love you."
Then she kissed him, just as he had to her just before the Day of Black Sun Invasion.
