I HATE LIVEJOURNAL AND ITS INABILITY TO OPEN NEW WINDOWS WHEN YOU ACCIDENTALLY CLICK SOMETHING.
Here I'd written up this response to this, and then I went to change my userpic, and I wound up losing everything I'd written.
To summarize:
--the-sun-is-up is NOT going to be happy. And I will be delighted. --I think it was Rawles who totally called this, and I don't think she even reads the manga. But I think it was she who said that when Mai switched sides at the Boiling Rock, she would have died in any other universe, because that's how those characters tend to go. Silence, submission, love confession, breakout, death. And it's just a rip-off that Hinata had to suffer that. --Mai is not happy. --I was spoiled beforehand, so the irony of her not fighting had no impact save to render extreme, extreme, EXTREME disappointment. The confession was awesome, but...the follow-up was too much of a waste. Couldn't he have even just done a two-page battle between Hinata and Pain? Heightened the tension? Or couldn't we have SEEN the killing blow? Unless she's not dead. But...she kind of died off-screen, if she did. There's no dramatic final panel...maybe our last image of her is supposed to be her confession. But...it seemed way too rushed. Especially for one of my top five characters in Naruto.

Fail. Just...fail.
