True Grit, a surprise joy.

All the commercials and trailers and such hyped up Jeff Bridge's character of Rooster Cogburn, and while he is undeniably an important and prominent character, the truth of the matter is that he is a supporting character. The real lead of the movie is Hailee Steinfeld, playing the role of Mattie Ross, a young woman who's father has been murdered and is out for revenge, and she will stop at nothing to achieve her ends. It is her story the whole way through, and she does a damn good job of carrying the movie, with a little hired help from Rooster Cogburn.

And she is magnificent! And the funny thing was, I was planning to see Tron Legacy, but put that off so that I could see it with my brother. Happy happenstance and all that, I suppose.
