I do believe that trying to type down my thoughts will help me to clarify them, though I don't think I'll go for as in-depth a recap as I do for GX.
Duel Academia isn't a school; it's just a place for Judai to duel endlessly while avoiding any semblance of real life. So yeah, those without names are but living props, like something out of The Truman Show.
And this is why whenever I encounter someone who says that there's all this deep, philosophical/alchemical symbolism in GX, I just roll my eyes and move on.
Saiou's doing stuff, though he's being needlessly circuitous about it...that's about it, really. Oh, and Edo. Which is remarkable, considering the lack of any sort of plot at all. Compare to Duelist Kingdom, or Battle City, or the Memory World.
Isn't the Utena movie the one where one of the characters turns into a car or something? I've heard that much.
Thinking of the manga is definitely preferable, I don't blame you for that.
Seriously, if they were fighting over calling Misawa Aniki, or calling Asuka Nee-san, that would still be stupid, but at least it would make SOME sense?
