cypsiman2So, we've just introduced a whole bunch of new characters. First, we've got Akio, Anthy's older brother, who it turns out was the guy talking with the prince during last episode's recap. He comes across a lot like Touga, so the rather skeevy scene between him and Anthy at the end didn't catch me ENTIRELY off guard. Then we've got his girlfriend Kanae, who doesn't really come across as a recurring character, more an illustration of the power that the Black Roses have. And yeah, when she talks about Anthy's cold, alien look in her eyes, and when Anthy takes off her glasses...I can see what she means! Also, we've got this Mikage fellow, who is very, very bad news, what with his having apparently arranged the deaths of 100 boys to further his own aims, if I've read between the lines correctly. Though, wouldn't it be a hoot if the 100 deaths was a genuine accident, and he was just taking advantage of that? Also, he seems to have a 'relationship' with this fellow named Mamiya; he says he would like Mamiya to be the Rose Bride, and Mamiya points out that that would be a bit awkward, on account of him being a dude.
The imagery has really stepped up, the Shadow Play girls were doing there thing right next to Utena, possibly signifying Utena's increasing awareness of what's really happening all around her, and was it just me, or did this episode really try to avoid showing people's mouths moving while they talked? Or has that been going on all along, and I only just now noticed?
