“Aqua, everyone’s staring at us.” Ven whispered to his friend, both because he did not wish to be over heard, and because they were close enough that regular speaking voices would have been far too loud.
“They are not Ven, it’s all in your imagination.” Well, maybe not quite all in his imagination; Aqua was able to spot a few people who were giving them quizzical looks, but surely calling that staring was a bit much, right? After all, there were all sorts dancing in the annual Radiant Garden ball; even King Mickey and Queen Minnie were there, demonstrating skill that one would not have expected of such diminutive figures. So, surely the fact that Ven was just a bit shorter than her couldn’t have stood out that much in this crowd, right?
“But Aqua, my necks really starting to hurt.” Ven wished he could relax, let his head fall to a more natural posture, but unfortunately, ballroom dancing meant he was very close to Aqua. In addition, she was not dressed in her usual outfit, which would have been bad enough from his point of view. No, she had to be dressed in a ball gown, the cut of which…well, it was the key reason why he dared not look anywhere but up, even though it was really beginning to be a problem.
“Hmm…” Aqua understood Ven’s plight quite well; in truth she hadn’t realized how awkward it would be for the younger boy until just after she’d taken his hand, and by that point it was too late. Suddenly, inspiration. “Lower your head, close your eyes, and follow my lead.”
“Um, okay.” Despite his uncertainty of this plan’s wisdom, he did as she said, closing his eyes, relaxing his neck, and letting Aqua take control. And at first, it did feel pretty weird, like something out of a dream…but as the reality of it all took hold, it felt so right. And even with all the eyes he could feel staring at him and Aqua, he found he couldn’t care about them, so long as he was in Aqua’s arms.
