Okay, Art Design. I've not put much conscious thought into it, but the quality of visuals and design do make a huge difference to me. For example, the art design of GX, while superficially similar to the style of the original series, is typically uninspired or outright ugly, with only a few decent designs to go around. Really, compare Yuugi Mutou and Judai Yuki. Even at a glance, Yuugi's design has a lot of heart in it, and you can tell a lot about what sort of person Yuugi is from how he holds himself, how he dresses, and of course that crazy hair of his. Judai...is just there. He looks like an extra, a one-note one-shot character who's gone by the end of the episode and quickly forgotten, so the fact that he's supposed to be the main character creates a sort of dissonance, I think. The same goes for the rest of the characters, the ones in Yugioh are just plain better, while the GX ones look like they were quickly churned out to fill a quota of certain archetypes.

And to go off in a different direction entirely, I've been watching Mahou Sentai Magiranger as of late, and the costumes that they've got on that show are just incredible. Just...damn, really good stuff, and no small part of why I picked it to watch over any other number of Super Sentai shows I could have watched.
