Where I rewatch Yugioh GX, Episode 137

Last time on Yugioh GX, Judai falls to his knees and whines a lot. Then he is apparently possessed by "The Supreme King", which bears a strong resemblance to Judai's outline. The reason for this will be painful and stupid.
TITLE SCREEN! SHOU'S DECISION! PROOF OF FRIENDSHIP ooh, this should be precious.
Apparently we're in either in a flashback or a dream, as we're back on earth, with Judai and Shou dueling. The winner, obviously, is Judai, blah blah blah, Shou can't stop crying, and yeah, it was a dream. Shou wakes up in a cavern somewhere, flashback to Judai's duel with Scarr, which includes both Judai's and O'Brien's thoughts which Shou could not have been privy to, repetition of facts we already know, flashback to Judai's duel with Zure, and flashback to Asuka, Fubuki, and Kenzan being killed so that Judai can have the oh so precious manpain. Shou's stupid curse mark of Doubt appears, and now we've got a bunch of lovelorn pictures of Judai smiling as he is surrounded by Shoujo bubbles, and then the most comically inept attempt at an evil expression. Then again, this is Judai, who in spite of this season's efforts to the contrary, still has all the depth of a wet noodle, so any evil expression would look stupid on him. Oh, and more joy, Ojama Yellow's high pitched shrieking. Yeah, apparently he fell into a river, and Shou goes to try and save him. He is comically inept at it, minus the comedy, shot of that stupid farking comet, flashback to Manjoume's final moments in which he chews out Judai for his assmunch behavior before dying, which randomly takes out Ojama Black and Green for some reason. Blah blah blah, more imagining of Judai with the inept face of evil, and for some reason Shou is still struggling with giving Judai the benefit of the doubt. I'm sure this is because of their "friendship", but considering that he saw Judai getting all of his other friends killed, there really shouldn't be room for lingering feelings like that. And now Ojama Yellow is asking why Shou isn't with Judai...despite seeing his master Manjoume getting killed by Judai. Because that makes sense. But of course, this is just a pretense to set off another bout of whining from Shou. Blah blah blah, Judai didn't give a shit about everyone else so long as he could keep winning, which in all honesty is fully consistent with Judai's behavior over the course of the entire series.
Ojama Yellow now wants to travel with Shou, and goddamn, is it annoying having to listen to so much dialogue from this troll. I mean, it gets to live, but Asuka and Fubuki have to die? Fucking bullshit, that's what it is. Shou wisely ignores the little freak and walks away, but it keeps pursuing him, so he yells at it that he's on his own now, he doesn't need friends anymore, Ojama Yellow flies right into a branch and knocks itself down to the ground, and as Shou looks upon the ruins of the village from before, at least I think its the one from before, swears that he's going to forget Judai, and now flashback montage of Judai saying what great friends they are, while conveniently ignoring that Judai was never a good friend to Shou, ever. Then Shou decides that the reason he can't forget Judai is because he still has his duel disc on his arm, the one he hasn't gotten to use all season long. So he takes it off, and throws it away. That's right. Just...throw away your only means of self-defense in this place. Mind you, considering that you steadfastly refused to use it to even try to save your own life, this doesn't really make much of a difference. Transition, Shou's in the woods, and what do you know, giant ass bug monster is tearing the place up. Oh great, its chasing after Ojama Yellow, which means that Shou's going to have to go and rescue the little freak in spite of earlier proclamations of not wanting anything to do with it. Shou realizes what an insipidly stupid idea it was to throw his duel disc into a canyon, and then says he'll stick to what he said earlier after all. Nice. Of course, Shou changes his mind again, and throws rocks at the giant bug monster to get its attention. This works, and Shou illustrates the importance of having a step 2 after drawing the attention of a vicious giant monster by not having one. He runs, he trips, and from out of nowhere Hell Kaiser Ryou tosses one of his stupid shock collars at the monster.
You know, someone should really explain to the writers how real shock collars actually work. It would be quite illuminating, I'm sure. Also, Hell Kaiser Ryou at some point picked up a fancy robe, and now I'm going to ask a question I could have asked earlier; why the hell didn't Hell Kaiser Ryou, Edo, Chronos, and Echo all appear in the same place as Judai's group? Oh, right, because then the ultra-contrived plot wouldn't work. Hell Kaiser Ryou then top draws Power Bond and three Cyber Dragons, so he summons Cyber End Dragon. Also, you'd think that given how much Shou's been whining about Judai, he'd be harboring some really deep resentment against Ryou, what with almost being killed by him, and not by accident or anything. But as has been established, no one seems to remember what Hell Kaiser Ryou actually did last season. Because continuity is for losers and posers.
EYECATCH!
Short and boring battle is short and boring, and now we get a really cheesy effect as Hell Kaiser Ryou grips his chest. And now a shot of his heart beating erratically. It passes, blah blah blah, Ojama Yellow is always annoying, and Shou passes out. Hell Kaiser Ryou questions Ojama Yellow, it fills him in on what's been going on, and Hell Kaiser Ryou gives a damn about Manjoume being dead. Why? I honestly don't know. Even if his heart condition is giving him a better awareness of his own mortality, Manjoume was never someone that he was in any way close to. That stupid comet that the writers are afraid we're going to forget somehow, maybe it would help if it were to actually do something, and more exposition about what happened. Ryou's skeptical about all this "Judai selfishly getting everyone killed" for no good reason, and now Shou is having more stupid dreams about Judai. Umm, you know what might be nice? IF SHOU WERE TO THINK ABOUT HIS OTHER FRIENDS WHO JUST DIED AT JUDAI'S HANDS! Oh, right, that would mean taking the attention off of Judai for even a picosecond, and we can't have that, now can we? Blah blah blah, Shou asks Judai what he would do if one of his friends turned evil, and he says that he would just stand by and watch, doing absolutely nothing. Remember, this is supposed to be Judai before he suffered a psychotic breakdown out of being too good for this sinful Earth. Judai claims that just standing watch over the friend who turned evil and not doing anything is how you demonstrate how strong your friendship is, and I can't help but remember what Yuugi did when Jounouchi was taken over by Malik. Hint; IT DIDN'T INVOLVE STANDING AROUND AND DOING JACK SHIT! Shou wakes up, sees Hell Kaiser Ryou, and apparently the writers do remember the duel where Hell Kaiser Ryou almost killed Shou, they just don't feel like applying the psychological realism that this season is supposedly all about. Right.
Flashback to that duel, no accounting is provided for why Hell Kaiser Ryou stopped being an asshole aside from the paper-thin excuse of his heart condition, notice that Hell Kaiser Ryou doesn't seem to feel that there's any need to apologize to Shou about that, and Shou doesn't seem to think that one is necessary. Yay, unrealistic forced characterization! Wait...blah blah blah, Ryou gets up to leave, Shou begs him to tell him what to do, Ryou says to figure it out himself, and apparently at some point Ryou conveniently picked up Shou's duel disc, which is in perfect working condition. Not that it will make any difference, as Shou's still not going to get any dueling screentime this season. Now we cut to Edo, who apparently picked up his stupid cloak from the same shop that Ryou did, shuffling his deck. Because when life and death are on the line, it's important not to stack your deck. Ryou rejoins Edo, blah blah blah, and I'm sure lots of bad fanfiction was written from this scene alone. Also, Ryou's heart is still giving him trouble, and he whines about having something he still has to do. Back to Shou and Ojama Yellow, and Shou swears that even though Judai killed off all of their mutual friends, he'll still watch over him, because that's what friends do. Judging from this music, this is supposed to be a heartwarming triumph, but it is ruined by two things; one, Ojama Yellow's unceasing whining, and two, even Yuugi would regard what Judai did as something that would irreparably break a friendship forever. But of course, if you're the writers, and the only character who's feelings matter are Judai's, then it's perfectly natural for a friendship with him to never break, no matter what sort of asshole behavior he exhibits throughout the entire series. I mean, considering the kind of twit that Judai was all throughout seasons 1 and 2, does this come as any sort of surprise to anyone? Also, stupid flashback montage of Judai's ugly mug just makes me want to punch something. And what is the deal with that stupid comet? Jesus christ, explain it already, you've dragged that out for too fucking long at this point! End episode.
NEXT TIME! The writers perform a retcon and say that Judai and Jim were super special awesome friends. Given what happens to anyone who's a close, personal friend of Judai in this season, that's not a good thing for Jim at all. EPISODE TITLE, DESCENT OF THE SUPREME KING - THE DEATH DUELISTS card of the week is cyber dragon.
It really demonstrates how terrible a series this is, that when you have an episode that's supposed to be entirely character introspection and self-exploration, and ultimately nothing comes of it. If this were to have given Shou the motivation to beat Judai's head in, that would have been good. But it didn't, so really, this whole episode was a waste of time.
