Where I rewatch Yugioh GX, Episode 143

We open with the Dancing Fairies flying around the village, asking if anyone has seen Johan. They'll take anything, even baseless rumors! But sadly, no one's heard a thing about him. Meanwhile back at the castle, Ryou's opponent summons Perfectly Ultimate Great Moth...how the hell Ryou could let that happen, I've no idea. Seriously, that thing is next to impossible to summon. And on Ryou's side of the field is Cyberdark Dragon with 3300 attack points, and since it has no monster equipped to it, that would mean that Ryou had 23 monsters in his grave. Or, you know, the writers just don't give a shit. And in a way, it's kind of funny; last season Cyberdark Dragon kept getting hyped as the ultimate forbidden monster, and this season...it's fodder. Oh, and this is also the first time Ryou's taken any damage in this duel. Again, the writers don't give a shit. Meanwhile, Edo is dueling the other two minions, and he's in a pretty rough state with only 500 life points left. Okay, this is not a duel, this is that stupid bull from the first alternate dimension, where people just play cards whenever. Edo summons Bloo-D, and the minions respond by...sacrificing themselves to Ritual Summon Demise King of Armageddon. Oh wow, this was their true form, no one could conceivably give a shit. Have I ever mentioned how none of this shit makes any sense?
TITLE SCREEN! VOLCANIC DEVIL VS. EVIL HERO OF EXTREME EVIL are you guys sure this wasn't written back in the nineties?
And now to the duel between O'Brien and Supreme King Judai. O'Brien asks if Judai's truly forgotten everything, how Jim sacrificed everything for his sake, and Judai doesn't give a shit, he follows the path of power and nothing else. Blah blah blah, O'Brien goes on about how Judai's leading the whole world into darkness, darkness is lonely, he's been through that, so why doesn't Judai understand? And this would be the reason for O'Brien's episode of grossly out-of-character behavior, so that he could understand Judai's darkness. I could retch. Judai says he's fine with being alone in the darkness, for in solitude lies truth, and no one will ever tread on the darkness within others again. Mostly because he'll have killed everyone, but omelets and eggs and all that, you know? Blah blah blah, and finally Judai says he's had enough of all this talk, he doesn't need to listen to a losing dog, and the duel resumes. O'Brien's turn, he summons Volcanic Edge in defense and uses its effect to deal 500 points of damage to Judai, and then sets a card to end his turn. Judai's turn, he declares his attack and makes gratuitous use of the special effects budget, destroys Volcanic Edge, sets a card, and ends his turn. O'Brien's turn, he activates Blaze Cannon, sends it to the grave to activate Blaze Cannon Trident, and then discards Volanic Hammerer to destroy Judai's monster for 500 points of damage. Next up, the spell card Fire Back, discarding one Volcanic Monster to bring back Volcanic Hamerer with 2400 attack points. Now, since Jim used Blaze Cannon Trident, he can't attack this turn, but he can still activate his monster's effect, dealing 200 damage per Volcanic monster in his grave. He's got two, so that's another 400 points of damage to Judai. And that's it for O'Brien. Judai's turn, he plays Dark Calling, which is basically the Dark counterpart to Miracle Fusion. In the anime they add a clause where you have to remove a Dark Fusion in your grave from play to activate it, but that doesn't exist in the real game and it makes no difference here, so who cares?
Anyway, Dark Calling removes monsters in the hand or the grave from play for its fusion summon, so Judai removes Burst Lady in his hand and Clayman in his grave...the fuck? When the hell did Judai send Clayman to the grave? No, no, he didn't. There are exactly three monster's in his grave; featherman, wildman, and Wild Cyclone. This is just...oh my god, this is just so fucking sloppy! In any event, the writers cheat so that Judai can summon Evil Hero Hell Sniper, which is the Evil Hero counterpart to Rampart Gunner. And of course, you can tell that it's evil, because cleavage! Anyway, like Rampart Gunner it can shoot the other player directly for 1000 points of damage while in defense, but in addition, it also can't be destroyed by spell cards, so Blaze Cannon Trident is useless against it. Blah blah blah, O'Brien doesn't know if he can bring Judai back from this, but Jim's Magic McGuffin Eye glows, letting O'Brien take another peek into the empty void known as Judai's mind. Blah blah blah, the Supreme King is the armor trapping Judai's true heart, Jim realized this, O'Brien will carry out Jim's mission, this is all shit we all already know. In any event, O'Brien takes his turn, and sends Blaze Cannon Trident to the grave to special summon Volcanic Devil. O'Brien attacks and destroys Hell Sniper, then orders Hamerer to attack directly. And it works, leaving Judai with just 200 life points, and that card he set two turns ago has proven completely useless. Yes, the comet is still there! Hallelujah, that pointless ass comet is still there! And now back to the village, Shou is apparently looking for O'Brien, as he apparently missed all the bru-hah-hah about how he was going to attack the Supreme King's castle. Shou declared that all he was going to do was watch and be an observer, and he can't even do that right. And then the Dancing Fairies approach Ojama Yellow.
They ask the obnoxious little troll if he's seen Johan, and he says "Oh yeah, totally, saw that guy just the other day, honest, I would never make up shit to impress cute girls!" And only now does Shou figure out that O'Brien left to go fight the Supreme King. So he goes up to the wall, and summons Kiteroid, which is a giant kite that he uses to fly out. This will officially be the only time when Shou having his duel disc will be the least bit relevant. Blah blah blah, and back to the duel. Judai spouts some bull about how the true battle starts now, as though he hasn't been doing his utmost to destroy O'Brien, and special summons Evil Hero Hell Brat since he had no monsters on his side of the field. Next, he sacrifices it to summon Malicious Edge, which activates to let him draw a card, but he can't activate it this turn. Then he activates the equip spell card Vicious Claw, increasing Malicious Edge's attack power by 300, he attacks, but Volcanic Devil's effect activates, forcing Malicious Edge to attack it instead of Hamerer, Judaii takes 100 points of damage, but now the rest of Vicious Claw's effects activate; it keeps Malicious Edge from being destroyed and returns to Judai's hand, it destroys an opponent's monster other then the one that attacked his for 600 points of damage, so Volcanic Hamerer is destroyed and O'Brien has 500 life points left, and there's more waiting after the eyecatch.
EYECATCH!
Air security at the Supreme King's castle is for shit as Shou flies right on in, and now over to Ryou's duel. Blah blah blah, he plays Fusion to summon Cyber End Dragon, and blows up Perfectly Ultimate Great Moth for the game. Wow, that was underwhelming. And then Shou runs up to the brother who callously attempted to kill him less then a year ago, and is just fine with that. Over at Edo's duel, Demise activates its effect, paying 2000 life points to destroy all other cards on the field, but oh noes, Edo has D-Force on top of his deck, so Demise's effect is negate. Whatever, he still has more attack points, he'll just attack Bloo-D, but Edo activates Blood Counter, which is a ridiculously situational card that will not be played outside of this episode and will never be released into the real game. Long story short, Edo wins. And what is with that smug look on your face Edo? Seriously, no, that was not impressive. Not, impressive, in the least. And now Ryou and Shou have conveniently caught up with him, so back to O'Brien vs. Supreme King Judai. O'Brien looks at the Magic McGuffin Eye again, blah blah blah about life points, Supreme King won't let go of Judai so easily, dark energy flows down badly animated stairs, and finally, the duel has witnesses. Shit, we almost had a duel that no one was watching. Crisis averted! Finally, Judai activates the last part of Vicious Claw's effect, special summoning an Evil Token to O'Brien's side of the field with 2500 attack points. And finally, Judai activates his trap card, Evil Blast; when a monster is special summoned to the opponent's side of the field, equip this to that monster and increase its attack power by 500, but deal 500 damage to them during their standby phase. Thus, O'Brien will be defeated on his next turn before he can even do anything. Finally, Judai sets a card to end his turn.
Then Ojama Yellow says something really weird; remember how he bullshitted to the Dancing Fairies that he'd seen Johan? Well, apparently he now remembers it being the other way around, and tells O'Brien this version of events. O'Brien, unwittingly armed with baseless lies, tells Judai that Johan is alive, all has not been lost, the mass slaughter of the innocent that Judai's been engaged in is meaningless next to Johan's survival, they don't say that last part but it barely qualifies as implicit, so thick is the scorn for those who are insufficiently sparkly. And for some reason, Judai's hand is transparent in this shot. I've no idea why. He says that nothing O'Brien says will change the fact that he'll be dead before he can even attack, and as O'Brien draws his next card, Jim's spirit appears to help out, and it is the quick spell Fire Cyclone, letting him discard a fire monster from his hand to destroy Judai's spell or trap card, so boom goes Evil Blast. O'Brien declares his attack with Volcanic Devil, but Judai activates his face-down card, Super Fusion, discarding Vicious Claw to fuse Malicious Edge and Evil Token into Evil Hero Malicious Devil with 3500 attack points. It's effect forces Volcanic Devil to attack, so it goes boom and O'Brien takes 500 points of damage, but O'Brien charges Judai through the explosion, and as he presses the Magic McGuffin eye into Judai's chest, he explains that the monster he discarded this turn was Volcanic Counter, and when he takes battle damage involving a Fire Monster, he can remove it from play in his grave to inflict the same damage to the opponent. Thus, Judai also took 500 points of damage, bringing them both to zero life points. Big flashy red lights, Magic Mcguffin Eye invades Judai's inner space and shatters mirrors as Jim tells Judai to come on back, no one's going to judge him for having slaughtered thousands of people for no good reason, explosions, O'Brien says that the Supreme King is dead, Judai is free, and then O'Brien dies.
But Judai doesn't. Even though his life points hit zero. Now I know what you're thinking, the Supreme King was a possessing entity, so it makes sense that it dying wouldn't kill Judai. Ignorance is truly bliss. Let's see how long that will last...the comet is now glowing red, Magic McGuffin Eye shatters since it has no more purpose in the show, the comet's red glow becomes more intense, and Hell Kaiser Ryou holds up Judai's helmet and declares that the Supreme King is dead. The comet flares up, that's the best word I can find to describe it, and all the monsters scatter. And then the comet stops, I think it's gone but I'm not sure. And as everyone flies away on Cyberdark Dragon, Judai's last minion shows up too late to actually do anything, and the sun finally rises. And now Judai is sleeping under a tree on a hill. Hell Kaiser Ryou is bizarrely patient with the twit who got Asuka and Fubuki killed, saying he'll let him rest before questioning him. Edo then asks Ojama Yellow about what it said regarding Johan, and then it remembers that it was the one that had told the Dancing Fairies it had seen Johan, and not the other way around. Good god, this is stupid, and what's about to happen will be even worse. See, remember that cloaked figure that Ojama Yellow saw last episode? Yes, that was Johan, but oddly enough, with a familiar shade of orange eyes. Does this make any fucking sense? Fuck no, but we've got to force this plot through somehow. End episode.
NEXT TIME! Judai wonders where Jim and O'Brien are, and finds out that he killed them. AND HOLY SHIT, AMON'S BACK AFTER BEING ABSENT FOR OVER A DOZEN EPISODES! Also, he's got Yubel's arm for some reason. EPISODE TITLE, ACTIVATE! ULTIMATE UNSEALING RITUALISTIC TECHNIQUE card of the week is malicious edge
Good god, how obvious can the writers make it that Judai's turn to evil was motivated entirely by marketing? I mean, he summons a monster that he couldn't have summoned for crying out loud!
