My main concern is that since Amon was a giant hypocrite, the next season might end up ignoring all the setup with the systemic problems of Republic City and act like beating up Amon fixed everything
That I can understand. Personally I think Republic City's got a long way to go before shit's fixed. I don't think Amon being gone fixes everything. It got rid of one hell of a threat, but I think benders and non-benders could easily still be at each others' throats. If they're not I'll be disappointed.
Well, she did kind of get in touch with Aang that episode where Tarlock lost his bending. But she's completely different from Aang. It worked for me again because her spiritual self was so weak, whereas Aang's was really strong from the get go. Tenzin wasn't getting through to her well enough in that regard, and she is rather extreme. Before the finale I theorized that Amon would take her bending and that would be just the thing that got her to tap the avatar state. I was almost right.
Fuck everything about love triangles. I'm so sick of them. They're not fun. They're not cute. They're not necessary. And though I know I said I'm tired of ship discussions in this fandom, I'm honestly holding out hope that Korra's going to dump Mako the way Asami (sort of?) did. Or that Mako's gonna actually become a good character. Either way. He owes Asami all the apologies ever.
