Last time, Judai was surrounded by a hoard of O'Briens trying to be creepy and failing miserably. So yeah.

TITLE SCREEN! SAIOU, AGAIN! ACTIVATE DECISIVE POWER OF ABSOLUTE DESTINY see, even the title can't believe the writers are rehashing this duel.

The O'Briens move in, make their eyes glow, but Judai pulls out the Yubel eyes and says their glowing eyes won't work on him. He demands to know where O'Brien is, the O'Briens say they're right there, more glowing eyes and attempted creepiness that continues to fail, and Judai just shoves his way through them. Well, that was anticlimactic. Running through the empty streets, Judai finally notices how empty the city is, and then his reflection steps. TWO OF THEM!? Okay, it's okay, we can handle that, Johan was basically Judai, and we endured that...HOLY HELL, THERE'S A WHOLE SWARM OF THEM AND MORE SHOWING UP EVERY SECOND! NUKE THE SITE FROM ORBIT, IT'S THE ONLY WAY TO BE SURE! Blah blah blah, Judai is surrounded again, creepiness fails to achieve, all the...I'd say "Evil Judais", but Judai is a pretty vile piece of work to begin with, so hmmm. In any event, the other Judais arm their duel discs, and a truck shows up from out of nowhere. The fake Judais in its way turn into cards preemptively, and the truck manages to stop for the real Judai on a dime. Mysterious Figure emerges and drags Judai inside, the other Judais swarm over the truck like bugs, and now Mysterious Figure hauls Judai off on a motorcycle. Say, you know what Judai should do now? CARD GAMES ON MOTORCYCLES! Oh, and then Mysterious Figure blows up the truck, which for some reason hurts all the other Judais. Who, you know, are Mr. T in disguise and he's endured far worse than that. Yeah, they just reform as Mr. T, they talk about how Yubel's "will" is making things difficult, and then a random, out of nowhere reference to "Alice in Wonderland". I have no idea why. Not only does it not make sense, all it does is remind people of other, better stories they could be enjoying. And then they disappear. Marvelous.

In any event, Judai and Mysterious Figure arrive at Kaiba Corp, and Mysterious Figure reveals that he is Takuma Saiou! ZOMG, SUPER SPECIAL AWESOME PLOT TWIST, I NEVER SAW THAT COMING! Though, of course, the effect is ruined the moment you realize that there was no point to hiding Saiou's identity like that. Also, for that matter, when the hell did Saiou learn how to ride a motorcycle? He was never tech-savvy, his initial unfamiliarity with the Duel Disc back in season 2 is proof of that. Blah blah blah, he explains how the people of Domino City have fallen into "Darkness's" hands. Judai gets more worried, and on a completely unrelated note, Saiou wonders if he could take a look at Judai's deck. You know, to see if any of his cards have been tainted by "Darkness". Judai accepts this offer, because it makes absolutely no sense. Oh, and Judai even looks away, how convenient. Blah blah blah, Judai's cards are just fine, wink wink, and Judai wonders how Saiou knows so much anyways. Explanations later, helicopters now, we need to go back to Duel Academia. Speaking of Duel Academia, Chronos is shocked when he finds out that Judai just took off for Domino City without any sort of explanation at all, and now back to Domino City. Blah blah blah, exposition, exposition, none of which is the least bit interesting or worthwhile. Mostly because it concerns things we've already been shown. Scene of Mr. Ts in disguise taking people to the World of "Darkness", going on about how their is only the will of "Darkness", and back to Kaiba Corp tower. Judai and Saiou reach the top, Judai asks where the helicopter is, and Saiou says there is no helicopter. Judai, being the Most Triumphant Example of an Idiot Hero that he is, needs the obvious spelled out to him as Saiou challenges him to a duel. Wow, didn't see this coming.

Blah blah blah, there are bombs rigged to blow if anyone tries to leave the room so don't even think of trying to run away, the only way out is to lose and become one with "Darkness". Judai looks at Saiou with Yubel Eyes, but Saiou says not to bother, he is the real Saiou, not an emissary of "Darkness". Blah blah blah, Saiou blathers on about Destiny, Judai demands to know what the hell is going on, and Saiou says he has no choice, if he wants to see his little sister Mizuchi again, he must do this. Yeah, she, who unlike her brother, did not lose her supernatural powers at the end of season 2, was the one who was captured to motivate Takuma, rather than the other way around. Typical GX. Also typical is how this happened off-screen. Saiou says he'll save Mizuchi no matter what he has to do or the cost to himself, and so the duel begins. Saiou goes first, blathers some more about destiny, and how he disgraced his deck through the choices he made or some shit, for once I don't blame Judai for being unable to follow this shit, and Saiou summons Arcana Force VII The Chariot. Judai declares stop, it does so in the reverse position, so if it's destroyed it will be summoned to Judai's side of the field, more drivel about destiny, and he sets two cards to end his turn. There is a big flood of darkness from the cards Saiou'd just set, Judai wonders what it could be.

EYECATCH!

Judai's turn, and Saiou activates his permanent trap card, Death's Tour; during the opponent's standby phase, it rotates. If it lands upright, the opponent can't normal summon, special summon, or flip summon on their turn. Judai's badly animated shock amuses me, Judai stops it in reverse, but Saiou just laughs, the true destiny hasn't been decided yet, for he has also activated his other trap card, Decisive Power of Absolute Destiny; name a monster card in your opponent's deck, special summon that monster to your opponent's side of the field in attack position. Saiou picks Arcana Force 0 - The Fool, Judai's all "LOL, I don't have that card in my deck", but a streaming cloud of darkness from his deck says otherwise, for their it is! But how, how could this be? When on Earth could that card have gotten into Judai's deck? Yes, that's right Judai, when you stupidly and pointlessly gave Saiou your deck and then conveniently looked away, that's when he put it in there. Takuma Saiou, once a feared big bad, now reduced to the tactics of one Insector Haga. It's the sort of thing that makes one want to sob uncontrollably for hours on end. Saiou invites Judai to insult him, he is dirty scum, and now The Fool is on Judai's side of the field with zero attack points. Now Saiou gets to stop the rotation for a change, and he does so in the upright position, and then explains its numerous effects; first, it can't be destroyed in battle. Furthermore, it will also let Saiu freely choose whether he gets the upright or reverse effects of his cards. Blah blah blah, more destiny talk, Death's Tour and The Chariot switch to upright position, and since Judai can't summon a monster, he sets a card and ends his turn. Saiou's turn, he summons The Empress, upright effect, attacks The Fool with both monsters, Judai takes 3000 points of damage and screams, and Saiou ends his turn.

Saiou proclaims that The Fool is the perfect card to represent Judai, and while on the surface this would seem true, the actual meaning of The Fool has nothing to do with the empty headed twit that is Judai. Judai takes his turn, once again Saiou chooses the upright effect for Death's Tour, Judai plays Neo-Spacia Wave to try to get rid of The Fool, but it's upright effect prevents it from being affected by any of Judai's spells, traps, monster effects. So Neo-Spacia Wave is a bust, Judai tries to switch The Fool to defense, but oh, you can't switch it to defense position. Gosh, is that enough for this one LEVEL ONE card? Judai mopes about how hopeless his situation is, Saiou blathers a bit, and Judai swears to his true friends, the cardboard cards in his deck, that he will not fail. He sets a card, blah blah blah, if Judai wins how on earth will Mizuchi be saved? Finally, Judai thinks to ask Saiou where exactly Mizuchi is being held, saving her is his responsibility too. But no, Saiou says it's all on him, he who was foolish enough to be happy that he lost his power to see the future. YOU SEE, YOU SEE! YOU CAN'T ACCOMPLISH ANYTHING AS A NORMAL HUMAN, ONLY BY POSSESSING SPARKLY SPECIAL POWERS CAN YOU HOPE TO DEFEND THAT WHICH YOU CARE ABOUT! FUCK THE ORIGINAL SERIES AND ITS REPEATED DEPICTIONS OF NORMAL PEOPLE USING THE POWER OF FRIENDSHIP TO OVERCOME SUPER SPECIAL SPARKLY POWERS, FUCK IT RIGHT IN THE EAR! Also, nevermind that the only thing possessing those powers did for Saiou was to make him the prime target of evil cosmic space radiation so that it could destroy the world. Recap of how the supposed point of the end of season 2 was how we are all free to choose our own destinies as normal humans, but Shin Yoshida was all "fuck that noise, super special powers and ultra ordained destinies are where it's REALLY at!" Blah blah blah, Saiou continues to be Shin Yoshida's mouthpiece for his inane drivel about power and destiny, and I just don't care.

Judai objects, Saiou's heart is being filled with "Darkness", the same "Darkness" Saiou asked him to investigate in the first place, and Saiou says something weird about becoming a mummy while trying to find a mummy. I've never heard that expression before in my life, and I can't help but think it might be a mistranslation. Finally, Saiou takes his turn, declares his attack, and inexplicably, the worst music this series has to offer makes one last showing. I have no idea why they would bring that one back. But no, Judai had Negate Attack, he won't be dying this turn. Blah blah blah, inane argument about whether destiny can be changed or not, excessive overuse of the deck as a metaphor for life, and now Saiou activates the permanent spell card Planting of the Fool; he chooses an Arcana Force monster he controls, and depending on whether it lands upright or reverse, one player will have to send cards from their deck to the grave, one for every 300 attack points of the chosen monster. Saiou designates The Chariot, uses The Fool's effect to put Planting the Fool in reverse, so now Judai loses 5 cards from his deck. How on Earth will Judai get out of this one, and more importantly, who cares? End episode.

NEXT TIME! The duel continues, more blather about power and destiny from the pen of Shin Yoshida, EPISODE TITLE, THE END OF DESTINY! MAGMA NEOS VS. THE DARK RULER card of the week is the fool.

You're likely wondering what the hell the point of this duel even is. It is of course to advertise new cards to support the Arcana Force theme, and nothing else. Also, to indulge Shin Yoshida's inane drivel.
