New Characters! We have Mamiina and Yun, the new Simoun Sibyllas, and Mr. Vice Chairman, AKA Neviril's dad. Mamiina really comes across like a much darker version of Aeru; her favorite Ri Maarjons are the most destructive ones, and when she thinks that Aeru is going to get in the way of her becoming Neviril's pair (And this is after she comes in on Neviril while she's taking her shower, WTF much?), so she tries to kill Aeru. She also used to be one of Rodoreamons servants, and like Aeru she has some of the best scores at the Great Temple.

Yun, by contrast, doesn't get the focus and degree of characterization, but according to what she says, she is a death seeker who hates the war for having killed her friends. We'll have to wait and see when it comes to her.

And now the much referenced Neviril's dad, who despite fully appearing male still has a distinctly feminine voice; I don't know that I'm ever going to be able to overcome the dissonance that brings out in my mind, but I'm trying. And while he does want to keep his daughter safe after a fashion, it really is much more a matter of him preserving the family reputation than anything else. For example, his was the brilliant mind behind trying to have Mamiina become Neviril's pair.

Also, we learn that the Simile that Aeru would pilot was her grandfathers. The scenes involving the flashbacks are solidly adorable, and there are a few scenes in which amusing lampshade hangings occur, so that's a plus.

Now, in terms of plot and world building, we get some interesting developments; it seems that the Archipelago is not the Theocracy's only enemy; in fact, they are at war with pretty much everyone, but now all the economies are getting so bad that they're beginning to contemplate peace talks. The first will be with the Highland to the north, and it would seem that they are a theocracy too, worshiping Animus instead of Tempus Spatieum. Animus, the Jungian name for the masculine inner personality, or so Wikipedia says. And next episode we're supposed to meet the Highland priestess. Looks to be interesting.

So yeah, this episode was by and large just establishing the basis for new developments, so not much happened. But as always, the music is lovely, so it still makes good watching.
