Let's get the sub-plots out of the way first; the Messis is a piece of crap that leaks in the rain and it is important that you not kick the walls. Floe is dealing with the fallout from the last episode, and Neviril tells Aeru that the reflection that's in her eyes are of herself forever young.

But none of that is what this episode is about; this episode is about the very, very peculiar nature of the relationship between Alti and Kaimu. So enough beating around the bush, let's just say it, Alti wants her big sister, bad. She wants to become a man to be able to 'protect' her sister, and we find out that on the night before Kaimu's first ever battle, she was shaking and nervous and then Alti came in to 'comfort' her. It is little wonder that Kaimu is so antagonistic to Alti, and its none to surprising that they are unable to offer up proper prayers to the Simoun Gem when Dominura forces them to pair up, but there's a silver lining, even when your Simoun is careening off into the dark clouds, because that's where they, along with Aeru and Neviril, discover a very, very big Aregntine airbase. They think its abandoned at first, but that quickly reveals itself to be yet another ruse to lure the Simoun Sybella into a trap. So they end up having to run, Kaimu falls rather then leaping to her sister's 'embrace', a new Ri Maarjon is used to save her, and its back to the Messis.

Personally, I'm not entirely sure where the show is going with this, and it makes me a bit nervous. Even so, I'm willing to see this and all the other storylines out to their eventual conclusion.

Something I was curious about are the theocracies airships. I know the Simoun are relics which no one really understands, but I don't know if any of the larger airships are also relics or just things made by the theocracy.

One one hand, they share the same visual appearance and seem to be anti-gravity (well the Arc Primus anyway, I guess I have never seen a picture of the Messis). On the other hand, they don't seem to have any Ri Maarjon type powers, and don't seem to be treated as sacred.

Well, we also see a train that has a Helical Motor, and that wasn't any more sacred than anything else. It seems to be the Simoun Gem that Sibylla have to kiss to get the Simoun to start flying and make the Ri Maarjons, that gives the Simoun its Sacred status and powers. So I'm guessing the Airship Carriers and stuff like that, those are the ones that are made by the Theocracy, while the Simoun themselves have to be maintained in the half-blind way that people have to use when dealing with stuff left behind by the precursors.

Ok, that makes sense. Actually, that answers another question I had about the one pilot, training version of the Simoun.
