cypsiman2: I still believe in my dreams (No Development)

So, word in the Osiris Red dorm is that Chronos and Napoleon are to be fired. Manjoume is not the least surprised, what with being the only person in the room with a brain. After all, both Chronos and Napoleon are pathologically incompetent idiots who've very nearly destroyed the school multiple times. Shou is obnoxious to Manjoume, and Kenzan bets that Chronos and Napoleon are kissing some serious ass, not that it'll do them any good. Meanwhile, over in Samejima's office, he's flashing back to when Lynd told him that Saiou could blow up the entire world at a whim, just FYI. And now Napoleon and Chronos show up, arguing over who has more GX medals. I...would not have thought that teachers and professors would get to participate in the tournament...then again, calling this aimless sequence of duels would be an insult to the Kaiba Corp Grand Prix, to say nothing of Duelist Kingdom or Battle City. And now Samejima is facepalming, depriving me of the opportunity to do so. He tells them to knock it off, he's expecting someone, they don't listen, and so he yells to get out of his office, now, for he has no time for their inane, trolling antics. About damn time, now get out and don't let the door hit on the ass on the way out.

TITLE SCREEN! A TRIANGLE DUEL wow, there's a creative episode title. hey, remember when the original series actually had evocative episode titles that made you excited to watch the next episode?

So Chronos and Napoleon are moping on the docks, trying to act like puppies that have just been kicked; unfortunately, they were kicked out for chewing up the furniture, bullying the other pets, and pissing all over the food, so they'll be getting no sympathy from me. And Judai, Shou, Kenzan, and Manjoume are all just randomly passing by. Because. Blah blah blah, lots of stupid jokes and sight gags, and now there's a helicopter overhead. Boy, standing in the frame with the door open doesn't look dangerous at all! Yes, once again, Pegasus is back for another cameo. What are the odds that this cameo will be anymore relevant and/or worthwhile than all the others? Next to nil, but lets go ahead and pretend that we're giving the show the benefit of the doubt. Yes, thank you, we needed to be reminded of who Pegasus is; how about you explain how he survived Yami Bakura killing him so that he could take his Millennium Eye? Because, I don't think the writers realized this, but Yami Bakura was not a sloppy villain. He only left you alive because you were of use to him, and no other reason. Getting back on track, Chronos and Napoleon delude themselves into thinking that they can get employment at Industrial Illusions. I can already see how that interview would go; "And why did you leave your last place of employment?" "Well, we were fired due to gross incompetence." "Don't call us, we'll call you." And then they never call.

Anyway, Pegasus has no time for the idiot squad, he's Samejima's visitor. And then Chronos and Napoleon latch onto Pegasus's legs. How old are Chronos and Napoleon supposed to be again? At this point, I wouldn't be surprised if it turned out that Napoleon and Chronos were actually a bunch off kids in grown-up suits. At least that would be the kind of insane that I could work with. Pegasus says he has no time for their nonsense, but Chronos and Napoleon insist on holding onto Pegasus's legs, delaying him from making his appointment on time. Because that's how you endear yourself to your prospective future employer. Blah blah blah, this really drags on, and again, Manjoume has to be the one to point out how insipidly stupid Chronos and Napoleon are being. Also, apparently Judai has Samejima on speed dial. Why? Because. He fills in Samejima on what's going on at the docks, and Pegasus decides that fine, he'll give in to the whining trolls and hear out their annoying whining before telling them to stuff it, because while he may not know how this sort of thing is handled in Japan or Italy or France, but in America, you do not delay the boss from his meeting! Okay, I may have elaborated a bit, but that's what he should be saying. Then, for no reason at all, he tells Chronos and Napoleon that they have to beat him in a duel. Why? Because...the writers are morons and have no idea how human interaction actually works. Also, because he is short on time, he'll be dueling the both of them at the same time in a Triangle Duel. Oh hey, guess what? Judai's excited! Because, you know, he's never ever EVER seen anything like this before. And so Judai decides that his self-indulgent desire to be entertained at all times is more important than Principal Samejima's meeting with the President of Industrial Illusions. Why no, Judai won't be punished or called out for his arrogance, why do you ask?

And so the duel of the Offensive Foreign Stereotypes begins, blah blah blah, and Napoleon takes the first turn, summoning Toy Soldier and ending his turn. Chronos takes his turn, summons Antique Gear Soldier, and ends his turn. Manjoume and Kenzan spell out for Judai that no one can attack on the first turn of a Triangle duel, but on the following turns you can attack either opponent. Pegasus's turn, and he offhandedly mentions that whoever does better in the duel will start off higher in the company, and Chronos and Napoleon fall for it like the morons that they are. Pegasus then summons Toon Alligator in defense, Kenzan thinks it's adorable, and Pegasus sets a card to end his turn. Napoleon's turn, Chronos cheers him on, Napoleon glares at him, flashback to about five seconds ago, he uses Toy Soldier's effect to special summon two more from his deck, and now he plays Forced March, allowing for direct attacks at half strength. The first two attack Pegasus, and the third goes after Chronos. Chronos is outraged by Napoleon's betrayal, blah blah blah, and none of this is the least bit funny. Pegasus acts like anyone's supposed to be impressed by that transparent bit of grade-school manipulation, and now Chronos takes his turn. He summons a second Antique Gear Soldier, and plays Antique Gear Bomb; he selects an Antique Gear monster he controls, and deals damage to the opponent equal to half its attack power. Boom goes Pegasus, and now Chronos has his Antique Gear Soldiers attack Napoleon, destroying two Toy Soldiers for 1000 points of damage total. More stupid yelling and bickering, and the idiot squad is annoyed, irritated, and worst of all in the case of Judai, bored. Because nothing is more important than keeping Judai entertained, amirite?

EYECATCH!

The brainless bickering continues, and Pegasus has an old pocketwatch, because. You know, funny foreigner. It's funny! And now Pegasus takes his turn, and declares that he'll be taking them into the world of the toons. You know, in all honesty, Pegasus really shouldn't be using the Toon Cards, at all; they were the symbol of his denial of death, his refusal to accept that Cyndia was truly gone from his life. Having him continue to use those cards, more than ten years after the events of the original series...it has some really unsavory implications about the state of Pegasus's mind. Of course, the writers aren't thinking about any of that, Pegasus are wacky foreigner, he uses wacky foreigner cards. Anyway, he sends five cards from his deck to the grave to activate Toon Kingdom, since the original Toon World was nerfed so that it could be used in the real world card game. Basically, so long as its on the field, whenever a Toon Monster would be destroyed by battle, he can send a card from his deck to his grave to keep it from being destroyed, but he'll still take the battle damage. And now he sacrifices Toon Alligator for Toon Black Magician Girl, because we've got to attract the lolicon crowd somehow, amirite? No, I'm not, we really don't need the lolicon crowd. At first Shou's all excited to see the Black Magician Girl again, but then he notices that the Toon version doesn't have boobs, so he loses interest. Pegasus uses Toon Black Magician Girl's effect to attack Chronos directly, deals 2000 damage. Then he plays Shadow Toon, picking a monster his opponent controls to deal damage equal to that opponent's monster's attack power. He chooses Antique Gear Soldier, and does 1300 damage to Napoleon.

Blah blah blah, the idiot squad says stuff that we already know, more bickering, and Napoleon takes his turn. He plays Emperor's Coronation, sacrificing Toy Soldier to summon Toy Emperor from his deck. He attacks Toon Black Magician Girl for 300 points of damage, but Pegasus uses Toon Kingdom's effect to keep Black Magician Girl around. Oh hey, Pegasus says that the toons are perfect, only now it's totally void of meaning or pathos. Napoleon sets a card, and ends his turn. Both Chronos and Napoleon collapse, whine about how they stand no chance against Pegasus, and Pegasus says he agrees so they should just surrender and stop wasting his time. Unfortunately, before Chronos and Napoleon can do so, Judai opens his noise hole. All he does is offer up his boiler-plate drivel about how it's not over 'till it's over, and somehow this encourages Chronos and Napoleon to keep going. I honestly do not believe that Judai has the slightest clue what this duel is about, or even cares; he just wants to watch them duel. So with that hollow faux-inspirational moment out of the way, Chronos and Napoleon resume their final, shameful duel in front of the only students who exist in the entire Duel Academia. Chronos takes his turn and sacrifices both Antique Gear Soldiers to summon Antique Gear Golem, which is probably the only time someone on this show summons two monsters and sacrifices them for a high level monster without any sort of special summon shenanigans. So, at least that mildly interesting note happened. Pegasus is impressed, but he goes ahead and activates his trap card, Toon Suitcase, returning Antique Gear Golem to Chronos's deck. But Napoleon has his back, and activates his trap card Malfunction, paying 500 life points to negate Pegasus's trap and resetting it on the field. Lots of shilling goes on, trying desperately to convince us that this duel means something, and the fact that it doesn't just stands out all the more.

Chronos then activates another card, Antique Gear Hand, equipping it to Antique Gear Golem. He attacks, Pegasus takes 1000 points of damage while Toon Kingdom keeps Toon Black Magician Girl from being destroyed, but now Antique Gear Hand's effect activates, destroying the attacked monster at the end of the battle step. So boom goes Toon Black Magician Girl, and a thousand lolicon fans cry out in despair. Some Engrish from Pegasus, and now he activates Comic Hand, taking control of Antique Gear Golem, turning it into a toon. Next, he plays Copycat, removing five cards in his deck from play to add a card in his opponent's grave from his hand. He of course goes for Antique Gear Bomb. Blah blah blah, they're really dragging this out, and Pegasus uses Antique Gear Bomb to finish off Napoleon. Then he attacks Chronos with Antique Gear Golem, and wins.

Funny thing is, even if Chronos and Napoleon had cooperated fully the whole time, they still would have lost. Maybe not quite so quickly, but all the same, Pegasus is like twelve leagues above theirs, so they didn't stand a chance. The idiot squad shills that Chronos and Napoleon looked cool at the end, blah blah blah, and then Pegasus walks up and says that what's really important is that you keep unity in your heart. Unsurprisingly, I am unmoved. Judai and company then spout some fecal matter about how Chronos and Napoleon still have so much to teach them all, everyone except Manjoume, because he's the only one who has enough brain to remember what wretched and terrible teachers, administrators, and outright human beings Chronos and Napoleon are. Hey, remember that time when Kenzan grabbed Chronos by the collar, shook him up, and yelled at him? The writers certainly don't. Okay, now they're going into slow motion, this has to be a joke; a badly written, poorly timed, poorly paced, poorly thought out joke, but a joke nonetheless. And now Samejima shows up, and long story short, even though you could easily compile a list a mile long of reasons why Chronos and Napoleon ought to be fired, they were never going to be fired, they just misunderstood Samejima's enraged outburst. Why yes, the writers do love to indulge in the fact that these filler episodes are pointless attempts at padding for time. End episode.

NEXT TIME! Apparently Saiou comes into Judai's room in the middle of the night. Also, Asuka gets a double dose of the brainwashing. EPISODE TITLE, THE WHITE NIGHT DUEL! JUDAI VS. ASUKA (PART 1) card of the week is Toon Black Magician Girl.

Well, that was yet another episode that was a complete waste of time. You know, even when the original series made stupid changes to the original manga, they could at least do a decent job when they followed it. But when trying to go on their own, without any guidance...we get this drivel.
