Where I rewatch Yugioh GX, Episode 166
Jan. 15th, 2011 02:00 pm![[personal profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/silk/identity/user.png)
So, we open to Edo at some random orphanage, I experience horrific flashforward to Crow from Yugioh 5Ds, and there's sleazy Mike. Now a rapid fire montage of what happened last time, and now we're in a duel stadium, where Edo is outraged that Manjoume's popularity exceeds even his own. And when they glare daggers at one another, the whole stadium explodes. And then it pauses, and Ojama Yellow pops out to angrily break the fourth wall, saying that that's not what happened. Cherish this moment, it's the only time when this show will try to make you laugh, and actually succeed.
TITLE SCREEN! ARMED DRAGON VS. DRAGOON D-END the only end i want is the end of this horrible show.
Manjoume throws a remote onto the ground and demands that Mike explain what this program is supposed to be, and why on earth he would ever be so out of character as to actually listen to him and do what he says, being that he is a worthless slimeball with nothing worthwhile to contribute. Naturally, only the first question gets a response; he wants to know how the editing on the video was. Oh ho ho ho, this guy is so completely worthless in every way, I'm so glad we'll never have to deal with him again after this episode. Blah blah blah, a lot tedious tedium about Edo that I just don't care about. Also, there is an inexplicable crowd of people down on the ground with signs, cheering for "Ojamanjoume". When H.P. Lovecraft talked about soul-shattering madness that the human mind was not meant to understand, this is what he was talking about. Fuck, the Harlem Globetrotters don't get that kind of response, and that's the closest comparison I can come up with for what Manjoume's supposed to be in these episodes. Some very boring scenes of Manjoume shaking hands and drawing cards, and when he gets back to his apartment, he finds an envelope, but we're going to have to wait to find out what that's all about. Oh hey, Manjoume's over at that orphanage that actually exists. And yep, there's Edo, playing with the orphans. Wow, that's so touching and moving. You can tell from the frozen expression on my face that I'm being serious and not at all sarcastic. Emeralda is also there, I'm guessing she's the one who sent Manjoume the letter, and it is explained that the writers felt like ripping off parts of Seto Kaiba's backstory to give Edo a desire to not have any orphans be as miserable as he was, or some shit like that. Also, she has photographic proof that Mike is the one who broke into Manjoume's apartment and stole the oh so very important Final D Card. And that this was all part of Mike's diabolical plot to make Edo and Manjoume duel!
To quote Linkara quoting Patton, "You magnificent bastard, I read your book!" Seriously, if they had video surveillance of Mike stealing the card...why don't they just arrest him? What the hell was the point of grilling Edo and heaping all that "guilt" onto Manjoume, when they know exactly what happened? Blah blah blah, Manjoume and Mike are talking now, Mike wants the duel to take place at Duel Academia, and also, for Manjoume to throw the match again. Again, why the hell is Manjoume even listening to this guy? Seriously, is this guy supplying Manjoume with all the crack and hookers he could ever want? Anyway, Mike says that it's not like Manjoume could ever beat Edo anyway, Manjoume gets mad, and now over to Duel Academia, where a whole bunch of people from the outside world are showing up to watch the big match in person. Shou and Kenzan tell Judai to hurry up, but Judai says he'll pass on this one, they can go on without him. They take off, and Judai crawls back into bed. In the middle of the day. When he hasn't even done anything yet. Also, for some reason Manjoume is up in the rafters of Judai's room. He then begs Judai to help him, he's his only hope. I've no idea why this would be the case, but let's move on to all the other sub-moronic content that is this episode. Now we're at the Duel Arena, and even with all the extra outside people, the damn place STILL isn't filled to capacity! And there's Ojamanjoume jumping on stage, Chronos is ecstatic, while Samejima thinks that Manjoume just looks stupid in that get-up. And there's Edo, who apparently has to duel or else that orphanage/school will lose its funding, no that doesn't make sense but the writers pretend it does so that they can have an episode, and somehow Mike arranged to have both Manjoume and Edo wear earpieces so that he can tell them what to do. And their motive for listening to him...is me beating a dead horse over how little sense this makes. Blah blah blah, and the duel begins.
Edo goes first, plays Clock Tower, sets a card, plays D-Spirits to special summon Dread Servant, its effect places a counter on Clock Tower, then Edo summons Diamond Guy and uses its effect to send Destiny Draw to the grave, allowing Edo to draw two additional cards next turn, and now Manjoume takes his turn. A second counter is placed on Clock Tower, and Manjoume summons Masked Dragon. He declares his attack against Diamond Guy, they both have the same attack power so they are both destroyed, but Masked Dragon's effect lets Manjoume special summon another Masked Dragon from his deck, so he has that one attack and destroy Dread Servant, but Edo activates his trap Eternal Dread, so two more counters get placed on Clock Tower, and when Dread Servant is destroyed, Edo gets to destroy one spell or trap card he controls, so boom goes Clock Tower, and out comes Dread Guy, bringing back Diamond and Dread Servant. This gives Dread Guy a total attack power of 1800, and Manjoume sets three cards to end his turn. Edo's turn, he gets to use Destiny Draw's effect to draw two more cards, and he summons Divine Guy with 1600 attack points, which brings Dread Guy up to 3400 attack points. Dread Guy attacks and destroys Masked Dragon for 2000 points of damage, Edo special summons a third Masked Dragon in defense, Diamond Guy destroys that one, Manjoume special summons Armed Dragon Level 3 in defense, Divine Guy blows it up, and now Manjoume's run out of monsters, so Dread Servant attacks directly for 400 points of damage, but Manjoume activates his permanent trap card Direct Border. So long as it is on the field, both players can negate direct attacks from monsters with 1000 attack points or more, and when you do take damage from a direct attack, you get to draw one card. Blah blah, Edo sets a card and ends his turn. Oh noes, Manjoume is in such a bind, what ever will he do?
EYECATCH!
Judai has sneaked his way onto a boat, finds that the door is unlocked, enters, and is attacked by Emeralda. Blah blah blah, they both realize they're here for the same reason, to find the card Mike stole, which for some reason required subterfuge and not just going to the police and saying "Hey, this jackass who contributes nothing to society stole valuable company property. Arrest him, so that we might get our stuff back." Also, apparently Manjoume asked Mike to feed them instructions as a pretense to get him out of his room. Again, instead of just going to the police. In any event, it is Manjoume's turn, he summons Ojama Yellow, the little troll is shocked that it is in attack position, and Manjoume activates his trap card Level Soul, letting him sacrifice a monster on his field and removing Armed Dragon Level 3 in his grave from play to special summon Armed Dragon Level 5 from his deck. Then he plays the spell card Level Copy, letting him special summon another Armed Dragon Level 5 from his deck. The first one attacks and destroys Dread Servant for 2000 points of damage, the next destroys Diamond Guy for 1000, Manjoume sets a card to end his turn, and both Armed Dragon Level 5's get sacrificed for a pair of Armed Dragon Level 7's. Edo blah blahs about what a great move that was, and now Mike starts making noise with his noisehole, and for some reason he wants Edo to throw the match. Even though earlier he said he was going to have Manjoume throw the match. Blah blah blah, where is Judai, aka the only person ever allowed to accomplish anything, and now the lights go out. And then Judai walks up behind Mike and pops a paper bag behind his head. And...now Mike is howling with laughter as he strips down to his shorts. Yeah, apparently that bag that Judai just popped? It had Pharaoh's fleas in it, and now they are tickling Mike.

FLEAS DO NOT WORK THAT WAY!
My god, are these writers compelled to fail at everything ever??? Oh, and apparently he and the card on him the whole time. Yes, that's a good reason why they couldn't just go to the police with their photographic proof of his theft...NO IT ISN'T! Judai then holds it up and asks for Emeralda and Eyepatch dude to confirm that this is the card in question, Mike is shocked though I don't know how he could be, and Eyepatch Dude's name is Costello. Wow, took a whole episode and then some to get that out in the open. Blah blah blah, and Mike is hauled away by a bunch of giants. Judai returns the card to Edo, so now he can return to the Pro Leagues, I guess, and then Mike starts making noise, going on and on about how he'll take down Manjoume with him, and then Judai wonders whether pretending to be weak and throwing matches really does count as a swindle, and Jesus Duck Fucking Christ, all that inane out of character bullshit, just to get Manjoume to where he was before this inane plot even began! Blah blah blah, now the "real duel" can begin, Edo takes his turn, draws Bloo-D, summons Defend Guy, and sacrifices all his monsters to summon Bloo-D. It absorbs one Armed Dragon Level 7, raising its attack power to 3300, and then Edo activates his trap card D-Chain, increasing Bloo-D's attack power by another 500, and it attacks and destroys the other Armed Dragon Level 7 for a total of 1000 points of battle damage, followed by 500 points of effect damage, and now Manjoume has only 100 life points. Finally, Manjoume plays D-Acceleration, destroying all cards equipped to Bloo-D and cutting its attack power in half to let it attack again. But Manjoume activates his trap card, Level Bond, letting him bring back Armed Dragon Level 7 at the cost of letting Edo draw 2 cards. Edo can't attack, but oh noes, he still has the Final D left, and so he plays Fusion, combining Bloo-D with Dogma Guy to summon Dragoon D-End.
It is a hideous abomination of a monster, and the entire point of the past two episodes. One would ask why in the world Edo didn't keep that card in his deck right from the beginning instead of having it kept in a separate briefcase all by itself, but that would make sense. Anyway, it has 3000 attack points, Edo ends his turn, and asks what Manjoume plans to do. Well, for starters he'll sacrifice Armed Dragon Level 7 for Armed Dragon Level 10 with 3000 attack points. Then he discards a card to blow up Dragoon D-End, but oh noes, the anime version of Dragoon D-End can't be destroyed by card effects, only by battle. Manjoume attacks, both monsters are destroyed, but Edo says that next standby phase, he can just remove a different D-Hero from play to bring back Dragoon D-End, so Manjoume says he won't let him get that far. See, the card he discarded was the trap card Ojamaking, and when a monster you control is destroyed, you can remove Ojamaking from play to special summon an Ojama monster, so out comes Ojama Yellow. Manjoume orders Ojama Yellow to attack directly, Ojama Yellow points out it has zero attack points, Manjoume says to trust him, Ojama Yellow is the ace of his deck, and so moved is Ojama Yellow that it attacks. And oh, Manjoume activates his trap card Pride Shout; if a zero attack power monster attacks directly, it can inflict damage equal to its defense. So yeah, Manjoume wins, and not a single fuck was given by anyone with a brain. And oh, Samejima is being swamped with calls from corporations that want to sponsor Manjoume now. Because unlike before, when Manjoume was merely the champion of the World GenEx Cup, Manjoume's won an utterly meaningless joke of a duel with Edo, so now he has street cred and shit. Tired and predictable plot is tired and predictable, end episode.
NEXT TIME! Judai is being a lazy ass as he continues to skip classes in accordance with his privileges as Chosen One, and apparently Chronos is acting weird, and only Judai can get to the bottom of this. EPISODE TITLE, GRATITUDE DUEL! CHRONOS VS. THE ORIGINAL DROPOUT BOY card of the week is Dragoon D-End, which gets cut out in favor of ojama yellow.
You want to know something funny? People in this fandom have actually said that Judai "stood back and let his friends choose their own paths, instead of using his power to make them do whatever" as he would have supposedly done before all his "character development". Naturally, these are the people who think this show is good, owing to how they watch this show with their butts.
