So I'm browsing through the Yugioh section of the pit of voles, establishing that I'm clearly out of my tiny little mind, when I stumble across a story entitled "Bright Red Scream".  Here is the summary that the author has so graciously provided us with:

This is a real story, a story that goes into depth like no other self mutilation story, and brings out a bright red scream. Yuugi struggles desperately to fight his demons and resist the switchblade. Will you listen to his story? A cutter's story? YxYY

There's "so bad it's good", then there's "so bad it's horrible", and then there's "crossing the line twice".  You tell me what this falls under.

I've read this story on ff.net. I'm still trying to figure out what exactly turned Yugi into a cutter...other than y'know...yaoi reasons.

I'm just waiting for that story to suddenly have vampires/demons/angels thrown in the middle of it. That's what seems to happen in every YGO story I read >=(

I just don't buy Yuugi as a cutter, period. Malik couldn't make him do it with the Millennium Rod, nor Shadi with the Millennium Key.

I take it these vampires/demons/angels are not the product of someone playing the right card?

Yugi is way too good-natured to be a cutter. He has his angst moments, but I think every shonen hero is like that.

And as for the vampires/angels/demons thing, maybe if they were related to card games, they might make a little more sense. I've read a vampire fic that turned into a LOTR crossover right in the middle of the story. It made my brain hurt D=

Really, anyone who had half the things that happened to Yuugi happen to them would be all kinds of angsty. Most people would fall apart over the whole "dead pharaoh in my head" issue.

LOTR? Really? I like Yugioh, but no, they don't fit together. At all.

As long as the writer is trying to make the plot as best as it can be...

Not saying that all cutter-fics are bad, but I've read a few and most were just...no. :(

The trouble is that Yuugi isn't a cutter. He has his issues, his hang-ups, but he is far too cheery and optimistic to look at a switchblade and wonder how it would feel against his skin.
