My internet was out all day yesterday.  I should have taken that as a sign to not go to Fandom Secrets.  But I just did.

...

...

Goddamn it, 147 is making my blood boil.  I guess fandom will never let a character live its mistakes down, so long as they have a vagina.  And that "She got a little better near the end" bull all over the place didn't help matters at all.

I want to write crack to remind myself of Anzu's awesomeness.  Ideas?

Yyyyeaaahhhh . . . that's why I avoid shit like that myself. I can SOOOOOO do without the private wangsting made public so they can justify themselves by having everyone agree - or argue, so they can make their point and turn a convert to their side. TT~TT

Brain's not working yet this morning, so can't think of any ideas but . . . ANZU //IS// AWESOME STFU LITTLE FANBITCHES

*huggles*

Really, it's all just passive-aggressive nonsense. People should really just friend-lock their posts and be done with it.

YEAH, BUT SHE'S NOT AWESOME ENOUGH AND SHE WAS MEAN TO YUUGI THAT ONE TIME HOW DARE SHE BE HUMAN AND HAVE FLAWS! NEVER MIND THAT SHE TECHNICALLY SAVED THE WORLD THAT ONE TIME.

*Huggles back, gives back rub*

DD5150 still in an rp journal LOL

Yeah. That's exactly it. And I HATE that behavior. I've had that used on me, and I can't say I've not been guilty of it myself on occasion, which I hate.

On the one hand, yeah, it's kinda nice to be able to have a place to vent and air stuff out in "public," but really....... Y_Y

No doubt! The carnival stuff was cringe-worthy, granted, but she was fifteen. Raise your hand if you never did anything stupid or cringe-worthy when you were 15...

::crickets chirp::

Yeah, I thought so. And seriously, have people never heard of a little thing called a Character Arc? Did they completely miss the DK scene where she finally GETS IT and tells Yugi he's "just fine the way you are"????

And were ANY of the characters in a good place in the beginning of the manga? Let's see:

Yugi: Doormat
Yami: Vengeful scary bastard
Jounouchi: Petty bully
Honda: Petty bully helper
Kaiba: Egomaniac and okay with killing people if they, you know, could beat him at a children's card game.

Oh, yeah, CLEARLY it's just Anzu who wasn't the best person she could be in the beginning. The others were all SAINTS from the get go.

I also get annoyed with Sam bashing in Danny Phantom for the same reason. Tucker and Danny can do stupid things and it's just boys being boys. But if Sam does something stupid or says something cutting and OMG SHE'S SUCH A BITCH AND HOW COULD SHE DO THAT AND SHE DOESN'T DESERVE DANNY!!!!111!

You forgot one last detail on Kaiba

Kaiba: Egomaniac and okay with killing people if they, you know, could beat him at a children's card game, or if their deaths could in some way contribute to him winning a card game.

[sarcasm]But of course the others were all saints, they were boys with subtext; that fixes everything! Girls are just grody and gross, they should all just go away and die in a fire![sarcasm]

You fool, you've doomed us all!

Ps-Don't forget how any woman with the slightest hint of talent and/or plot importance is a Mary Sue. No exceptions.

pps-Well of course; girls getting narrative attention, agency, and importance distracts from the boys wearing tight leather and being subtexty around each other. And we can't ever have that.

You mean the part where Anzu was like the only person in school who gave Yuugi a chance? I'm not saying the girl was perfect when she began to crush on Yami no Yuugi - but um she quickly matured past that and was able to respect and care for them both. As individuals. One of the few characters who actually got it, and got it fairly early as well.

What'd you bet all the crap Jounouchi and Kaiba put Yuugi through doesn't get near as much hate. Not to mention Malik.

Really, you look at the aggregate of everything Anzu has done and has been implied to have done for either Yuugi, pretty much out of the goodness of her heart, and yeah, one bout of immaturity, as stupid and reckless and dangerous as it was, scarcely makes a dent in that.

Well, according to all the fanfiction I've been reading (well, just the summaries), the fans just love it when Seto Kaiba is being an obnoxious asshat to Jounouchi or when Malik is macking on his own psychotic disorder, so it's safe to say that they don't earn hardly any hate.

Any ideas for an "Anzu is awesome" prompt?

ALSO TO SAY ANZU IS USELESS IS ACTUALLY JUST IGNORING WHAT ACTUALLY FUCKING HAPPENED IN THE STORY. I'm not about to deny her arc wasn't as strong as the boys and she wasn't shoved aside in favor of the penis, because she was.

But here's the thing. No one but Anzu could have given Yami the courage to actually follow his heart. Yuugi was too afraid, Kaiba's acknowledgment of Yami as a duelist is often at the expense of Yuugi so it's not like Yami would listen to him in that aspect, and Jonouchi is generally too focused on Yuugi's emotional state to really see Yami's (as much as they do have a complex and interesting relationship). And everyone else doesn't really have a strong grasp of the fact there are two separate people in that heart of Yuugi's. Anzu was not only able to realize there are two Yuugi (and it was difficult for her because she's in love with 'em both), but was also in a place because she knew what she wanted more than anyone else (to dance) to be able to give Yami the advice he needed to do what was right for him.

And in the AE arc. Um well the world would have been dead if Anzu hadn't thought of getting that little namesake thing. Pretty big deal!

Also Anzu's one time of being a gigantic fool by trying to get Yami to rescue her, I don't think, outweighs all the crap the rest of the cast has pulled.

In summation, Word.

Yes, it would have been more awesome for her to have not been sidelined quite so much in Battle City, which went on for a very long time and became something of the "identifying arc" of Yugioh as it were. But even with that, Anzu was awesome all throughout the series, doing what she could, impacting plot, and getting character development all the while.

PS. Anzu whacking Zombie Professor with globe to save Jounouchi will never get old.

It seems in fandom, if the guys makes mistakes, they're recognized as layered and interesting characters. But, if a female character makes a mistake, it's OMG unforgivable!

The moment women act like flawed human beings, they get trashed by fandom.

I'm glad I've recently been looking into One Piece fandom because it's actually sane and it loves the female characters.

Sanity is becoming an extremely rare commodity these days.

This time, I really have quit Fandom Secrets, for keeps. Nothing but "I ship (insert nonsensical/offensive pairing here)" and smashing down anyone who doesn't cave into the hive mind. Sickening, really.

When I'm no longer so busy, I'm going to be doing a big post on how the Yugioh franchise has degraded over the years.

I only check it once and a while. The hate and nonsense has been nothing but an annoyance as of late, and I just can't wrap my brain around some things. :/

I would love to read that, actually~
