cypsiman2: I still believe in my dreams (No Development)

Recap of Edo bragging and Devil Guy getting rid of Shining Flare Wingman for two turns, Edo declares that he can't attack on the same turn where he activated Devil Guy's effect, so he sets a card and ends his turn. And of course, Judai is all excited and convinced that this means his E-Heroes will be getting even stronger. And of course, he will be proven right, even though it makes no sense at all.

TITLE SCREEN! VS. EDO (PART 2) D-HEROES OF DESTINY unmei unmei unmei. see, i can write edo and saiou's dialogue too.

Oh, now Judai's SUPER excited. Unfortunately, his head does not explode from an overload, so I don't care. Judai takes his turn, draws his card, and Edo declares the effect of his Clocktower of Seclusion; during the opponent's standby phase, the hands of the clock spin, and indeed it advances from 12:00 to 3:00. Edo goes on about the countdown of destiny, Judai can't escape his fate of defeat, but Judai doesn't believe in fate, you can always cut open your own future can't you? Edo dares him to try, and Judai summons Friendog, which attacks and destroys Devil Guy for 200 points of damage. However, this lets Edo activate Destiny Signal, which is just like Hero Signal, so Edo special summons Diehard Guy from his deck, and Diehard Guy has 800 attack points. Furthermore, Diehard Guy's effect is to take a monster that was destroyed this turn, and special summon it from the grave on the following turn's standby phase. Edo once more dares Judai to defy his destiny, and takes his turn. With Diehard Guy's effect, he brings back Devil Guy, noise from the peanut gallery, and then Edo summons Diamond Guy from his hand, and Diamond Guy has 1400 attack points. He activates Diamond Guy's effect, turning over the top card of his deck; if it's a spell card, he can send it to the grave and activate that card's effect on his following standby phase. The card Edo turns over is Misfortune, a spell card, and thus its effect WILL go off next turn, and there's nothing Judai can do to stop it.

Misawa and Asuka go over how devastating Diamond Guy's effect is, and then Edo attacks Friendog with Diamond Guy, destroying it for 600 points of damage. Judai uses Friendog's effect to take back Fusion and Bubbleman, but Edo still has attacks left, so he attacks directly with Diehard guy for 800 points of damage...but for no discernible reason he does not attack directly with Devil Guy. Oh, right, because if he did that, he'd win on his next turn, and then how would we fill out the rest of the episode? Edo sets a card and ends his turn, Judai draws his card, and the hands of the clock-tower move to 6:00. Judai summons Bubbleman, draws two cards with its bullshit effect, equips Bubbleshot to Bubbleman, and then attacks Diehard Guy. Edo calls Judai naive, and activates his trap card D-Shield; Diehard Guy is switched to defense position, and can no longer be destroyed by battle. Thus, Judai's attack was a waste. More noise from the peanut gallery, and Judai ends his turn. Edo takes his turn, and now that we're on Edo's second standby phase since activating Devil Guy's effect, Shining Flare Wingman now returns to Judai's side of the field. However, Edo points out that Misfortune's effect will also be activated; in exchange for skipping his battle phase, Edo can deal damage to his opponent equal to half the original attack power of one of his opponent's monsters. Thus, he targets Shining Flare Wingman, which deals 1250 points of damage to Judai, which means that if Edo had attacked Judai with Devil Guy last turn like he could have, he would have already won. But hey, we need to show off more D-Hero support! Edo activates Devil Guy's effect, removing Shining Flare Wingman from play for another two turns, more noise from the peanut gallery, and now we switch over to Saiou, who tells Judai to go ahead and struggle, for even though his defeat has already been decided, the struggle will refine Edo further, and when the moment of defeat comes, the power he put into Edo's deck will turn Judai into his servant who will walk with him on the path of Light.

So, I'm guessing that Saiou is the bad guy for this season? Well, at least we're not dicking around until the last goddamn second like last season. Unfortunately, Saiou's plan is still needlessly elaborate and overly involved, especially when one considers what his actual goals are and how exactly he intends to accomplish them. But of course, that will have to wait for when more is revealed about Saiou. Judai takes his turn, the clocktower's hands move to 9:00, and Edo declares Judai's struggles to be useless, he can't overcome his destiny.

EYECATCH!

Judai starts laughing, and says that Edo's D-Heroes are so awesome! And now an image of a brand new hero has come into the empty, cavernous void of Judai's mind! Edo says there's no such thing on Earth, the D-Heroes are the ultimate and final evolution of the hero cards, but Judai is sure that there's more than just D-Heroes and E-Heroes out there. TOO MOTHERFUCKING SUBTLE! Edo tires of Judai's idiocy, Judai attacks Devil Guy with Bubbleman, destroying it for 1000 points of damage, but Edo just activate's Diehard Guy's effect, ensuring that Devil Guy will return the following turn. Then Judai summons Clayman in defense position, and now it's Edo's turn. Devil Guy returns due to Diehard Guy's effect, and then he activates Diamond Guy's effect, and the card he turns over is Magical Stone Excavation, which will be activated on his next turn. Then he uses Devil Guy to remove Bubbleman from play for two turns, which destroys Bubbleshot, and then he equips Diehard Guy with Ring of Magnetism; Diehard Guy's attack and defense are reduced by 500 points, but now Judai can't attack any other monster on the field, and since D-Shield prevents Diehard Guy from being destroyed, this means Judai can't attack, period. Edo ends his turn, Judai draws, and now the Clocktower is back to 12:00, and now the Clocktower is wavering like some weird mirage or something. Judai goes over his hand, and plays Fusion, sending Wildman and Necrodarkman to the grave to summon the brand new, buy it in stores today, Necroid Shaman! Necroid Shaman has 1900 attack points, Edo declares that it is powerless before his D-Heroes, and Judai reveals Necroid Shaman's effect; when summoned, it destroys a monster on the opponent's side of the field, and special summons a monster in the opponent's grave to the opponent's side of the field.

So Judai gets rid of Diehard Guy, and bring back the Featherman in Edo's grave. More noise from the peanut gallery, Judai attacks Devil Guy with Necroid Shaman, but Edo takes no damage! Edo repeats his spiel about Judai being unable to change his destiny, no matter how much he struggles, for now that the Clocktower has completed a full rotation, it's invincible effect prevents him from taking any battle damage! Damn. Edo's got all the bases covered, doesn't he? Judai sets two cards to end his turn, more noise from the peanut gallery, and now it's Edo's turn. Shining Flare Wingman returns, and Edo activates the effect of Magical Stone Excavation, discarding two spell cards to return one spell card from his grave to his hand.

Note: in the real card game, the discarding of cards is the cost for Magical Stone Excavation, which means that with Diamond Guy's effect, you wouldn't have to discard anything to get a spell card back.

In any event, Edo takes back Misfortune and activates it, targeting Shining Flare Wingman once more. But Judai turns out to have a single brain cell, which is more than we'd previously seen from him, and so he's prepared; he activates De-Fusion and Burial from a Different Dimension, the latter returning the Flame Wingman and Sparkman that were removed from play by Miracle Fusion back to his grave, which lets Judai use De-Fusion to split Shining Flare Wingman back into Flame Wingman and Sparkman, and this causes Edo's Misfortune to fizzle out. Of course, all of this would have been useless if Edo were to have targeted Clayman with Misfortune, which would have dealt 400 damage to Judai and won him the match right then and there. That's twice now that Edo deliberately prolonged the duel, and no one's calling him on it. To me, that suggests that whoever wrote this duel, just simply wasn't very good at it.

And now Judai does something incredibly stupid; rather then attacking with Flame Wingman and using its effect to deal the damage needed to win, Judai instead plays Fusion Gate, which destroys Clocktower of Seclusion. This is of course exactly what Edo was waiting for, making me wonder what the fuck Edo would have done if Judai had grown a second braincell and realized that he didn't need to destroy Clocktower of Seclusion at all. The point is, now that the Clocktower has gone through its full rotation, destroying it releases the D-Hero imprisoned within it, and so Edo special summons from his deck Dread Guy; when summoned, all non D-Hero monsters on Edo's field are destroyed, boom goes Featherman, and now he can special summon up to two D-Heroes from his grave. Blah blah blah, Edo goes on about how Dread Guy's hatred puts it beyond even the other D-Heroes, and now he brings back Devil Guy and Diehard Guy. Also, Dread Guy's attack power is equal to the combined attack power of all the other D-Heroes on Edo's side of the field, so Dread Guy now has an attack power of 2800. Judai declares that effect to be Dread Guy's weakness, and uses Fusion Gate to summon Thunder Giant. He activates Thunder Giant's effect to destroy Diamond Guy, which will reduce Dread Guy's attack power by 1400 points, but it seems that Dread Guy has yet more tricks up its non-existent sleeves, as it prevents Diamond Guy from being destroyed. Edo explains that on the turn that Dread Guy is summoned, his D-Heroes are protected from both Battle and Effect Damage. Thus, Judai's heroes are useless to him now.

Edo says that Judai is overly optimistic, and while he may be a skilled duelist (bullshit), but he simply can not win, for there's something that Edo has that Judai doesn't. And that something, is a reason to long for the heroes, and Edo's reason is to seek revenge against the man who killed his father!

BUM BUM BUM!!! Dramatic Reverb!!!

Edo's dad worked as a card designer for Industrial Illusions, but one day Edo came home to find that someone had broken in and killed his father, leaving behind a remarkably clean corpse. Okay, fine, standards and practices and all that, but what can I say? Between Law and Order and Detective Conan, I'm used to seeing a little blood on my corpses. Not to mention the original Yugioh manga...anyway, point is that the D-Heroes were the final cards Edo's dad created, of course. Edo used to believe in the power of justice and waited for his father's killer to be caught, but nothing came of it, so he swore that he would be the one to find his father's killer, and avenge his father's death.

By the way, you notice how Edo's mother doesn't merit any mention? Yeesh, at least Malik's mother got to be mentioned, and even adopt Rishid before succumbing to Death by Childbirth. Edo's mom doesn't even get that much.

Anyway, Edo goes on about how he'll get justice in the underground world, and so he became a Pro-Duelist so he could travel around the world and engage in battle to find the criminal, for the criminal holds a one-of-a-kind card, and he'll strike down all evil he comes across. So basically, Edo thinks he's Batman. Judai tries to talk out of turn, but Edo quickly shuts him the hell up, repeating his line about how he detests people like Judai, and then he takes his turn. Black ribbons run across Dread Guy's card for a moment, and now we see black ribbons run across Saiou's hand, which really does not go with the whole Light Motif at all. Saiou declares that Judai's destiny has fallen into his hands, and then Dread Guy attacks and destroys Thunder Giant for 400 points of damage...which brings Judai's life points to zero...defeating him.

Edo walks away dismissively, everyone seriously overreacts to Judai being defeated, and...then...all the cards in Judai's deck suddenly bursts out of his duel disc, like blood spurting out of a guy's chest. Seriously, this seems just a tad overdone, doesn't it? And now all of Judai's cards are turning blank white, for...some reason. I'm guessing it has something to do with Saiou, and then Judai collapses onto his face in such a stiff and unnatural fashion, that it just comes off as very weird. And that's the end of the episode.

NEXT TIME! Judai's a mopey little whiner, but who gives a fuck about that little prick, Asuka gets to duel! And her opponent is going to be Fubuki! I predict laughter of the unironic variety! EPISODE TITLE, ASUKA VS. FUBUKI! THE PATH TO A SIBLING IDOLATRY And our card of the week is Dread Guy, which makes sense for a change.

Well, Judai lost. You better savor it, because this is the last time that's going to happen, ever. Sucks all the tension out of his future duels right out, doesn't it? Oh, and remember how Junko and Momoe were there to cheer for Edo? The writers sure as hell didn't.

I'm trying hard to keep in mind that Fubuki is in the next episode. I need something to look forward to. Knowing that Juudai will never lose again really takes away all tension.

And Malik's mother's death was at least realistic given the circumstances. Difficulty with getting pregnant at all, probable complications with the birth, and no modern medicine... Urgh, now I feel sick from thinking about pregnancy so much, moving on. But yes, where is Edo's mother? It's part of this disturbing dearth of female characters, there really is a ridiculously low number of women occupying the world of GX.

I like Edo better than Juudai, but mainly I'm wishing I knew of a good version of Batman to read/watch instead.

And wow, this is ridiculously overdramatic. There are no stakes to this duel, why should everyone be so stricken by the outcome? It's one of the things which has always been so strange about GX, that they take loss so seriously even though they're at a school and dueling with no stakes. Everyone should lose once in a while, you'd think they'd be used to it.

Saiou's character design is really just very creepy. Why can't we have attractive villains like in Yuugiou? Oh, and interesting ones, that would be nice too.

Yay, Fubuki next episode!

You know, I'm suddenly thinking...why does Shou narrate the previews for the next episode? His voice is nowhere near as appealing and friendly as Anzu's was, he doesn't do a good job of advertising. I'd vote for Fubuki as far as good stage presence goes, but oh wait, the writers are trying to ignore him as much as possible.

And it doesn't help matters much that whenever Judai would lose, extenuating circumstances arise to deny him his rightfully earned defeat.

Really, with so few females, how do any of the guys manage even a token heterosexuality?

Well, there's Batman: The Animated Series, and there's also Batman The Brave and the Bold. Both very good animated adaptations, but almost completely opposite in tone. I recommend the both of them.

Seriously; I mean, if people knew about the occult shenanigans going on, it'd be one thing, but as it stands, the gross overreactions are just pure Narm.

Eh, I don't know, I kind of like Saiou's character design, and at least he's got a good voice actor, or at least I like his voice at any rate.

Woot, go Fubuki, be the charming, goofy, well meaning idiot that we know you are!

You're right, it should totally be Fubuki doing the previews. Or maybe Asuka. Hell, even Misawa. But not Judai, definitely no fucking way in hell.

Ugh, don't remind me.

By lusting over cards? That's Shou's method, and Manjoume at least has a crush on an actual girl...though he's confused over whether he wants her or her brother, so... You're right, it's really a mystery.

Thanks for the recs! Now I just need to figure out where I can watch them XD

I'm remembering Manjoume's loss to Juudai in season one, the dramatic reaction to it was ridiculous as well.

Hey, he's got nothing over Pegasus, Malik, or Bakura. Okay, it helps that two of the three main villains had UST with each other, but only a little! *shakes head* I'm listening to Curse of Darkness form the Sound Duels, I can never listen to it without being reminded of their arrogant posturing. Ignore me.

*hugs Fubuki* Seriously, if this series was about Asuka, with Fubuki and Ryou in supporting roles, it might have actually been good. Even if the plot were just as ridiculous, at least Asuka and Ryou could be trusted to facepalm over it, unlike Juudai.

Why not both? Fubuki and Asuka are even better together! And definitely no way on Juudai. We hear enough about how 'fun' everything is already! I may end up allergic to the word 'tanoshii' by the time we're through with the series. NO ONE EVER SAY 'O-TANOSHIMI-NI!' AGAIN, IT REMINDS ME OF GX TRYING TO STEAL MY SOUL!

I shall not.

The world of GX is indeed a strange and mysterious place, but that owes to it being schizophrenic and incoherent.

I should also mention that Batman: The Animated Series, is the starting point for larger continuity of animated series based on DC comics. There's Superman The Animated Series, Batman Beyond, Justice League, and Justice League Unlimited.

Oh, I never meant to imply that Saiou was ever a match for the original villains! Though personally my favorite villain from the original was Akunadin, and he has quite the theme, if I do say so myself.

Indeed, what could have been...

Plus, halve the time, Fubuki and Asuka wouldn't even get through the preview anyway! I'm always amused by the characters bickering preventing them from doing there jobs. And I'm sorry that GX has scarred your soul so badly, is there anything I can do to help?

Thank you.

Hmm, I think I watched Batman Beyond a long time ago, but it's been long enough that now all I really remember is that Bruce had an awesome dog ^^;

I don't even know why I didn't list Akunadin! And yes, his theme is awesome, now you've made me have to listen to it! It's a shame that he gets so little notice in fandom.

Ah, that would be so awesome! And maybe another episode of "Oh Shit, It's Seto Kaiba"? ;P

I jest. While that would be awesome, I should be fine for tonight. Mainly, I need a snack for my light head ^^; I want to keep on with chapter one of GfaT (writing insane characters, it should not be this fun), and get some more translation done...I found a site which has scans of the tarots, it should make it easier to work out the tiny radicals...

Ace is indeed an awesome dog, and I am by no measure a dog person.

Well, first of all, he isn't pretty. Second...no, the first point is all that's needed.

There's an inkling of one worming its way through my skull, I'll probably I have it up by tomorrow.

Ooh, anything that makes the translations easier is indeed to be treasured. And good luck on GfaT, I look forward to it as I do with everything else you write!

Now I just need to find episodes! I wonder if they're up on youtube? Or maybe, I don't now, Netflix, we're subscribed to them...

Damn you fandom, it's not his fault he's getting on in years! And besides, he and Akunamukanon were perfectly good-looking before they started getting old!

Ooh, I look forward to it!

Also, this way I don't have to worry about how to scan my book for pictures XD And thank you, I feel the same way about your writing!

Netflix will probably be your best bet. Though youtube might pull through in a pinch.

I think they have the first episode of Batman Beyond, at any rate, I'll look around...

Ooh, you've reminded me that I need to find the episode in the NAS anime with the flashback to Anzu's job at Burger World! I need screenshots of it for icons! Also I need way more Yuugi screenshots than I've currently got....

Good luck with that.

And that would be episode 22 of the NAS anime. And I do look forward to icons, even if I don't have room for them. XP
