I've been working on and off on a game in RPGMaker VX ACE that I've entitled Celestial River, and right now I'm on a strong "on" period with this game, and will likely remain so with the help of my good friend Stavekoff. While of course there are going to be gameplay tweeks and the like to hopefully make combat and exploration engaging, the real draw in an RPG is the story, so in this post I'm just going to share the basic premise of the game and the vague outline that I have for the course of the story.
Basically, you open with the bog-standard hero named Hiro and his stalwart chosen one companions as they make their way through the final level of the Demon Lord's castle. You are massively overpowered and can walk through all opposition, giving you the chance to mess around and try out various abilities and equipment and items. You fight the Demon Lord who puts up a decent enough fight, and then he transforms into his true Demon God form but before that fight can begin, a spaceship crashes into the Demon Lord's castle. You and the Demon Lord both go to investigate, and a bunch of dudes in Power Armor get out and without a word kill the Demon Lord and then the Hero and his friends. With his dying breath, Hiro calls out to his younger sister Edana...
Who wakes up in bed, convinced that she just had a nightmare and nothing more. But it was no dream of course. You will guide Edana on her journey, gather friends, and in time meet up with Delma the daughter of the Demon Lord and realize that both human and demon alike will have to work together in order to keep the Terran invaders from consuming every resource their world has to offer. Eventually everyone will get upgraded classes that will allow them to use the advanced devices that the invaders use, which combined with Techniques and Magic will give you the edge you need to win.
Finally, the final boss is the Natural Order, the name of the computer system that administers everything for the Terrans and is literally the embodiment of capitalism and imperialism. Once defeated, the Terrans will no longer be a threat and the world will enter a new era unlike any it had ever known before. Next time I post, I will discuss gameplay features I intend to implement for the game and what I hope to achieve with them.
