cypsiman2: I still believe in my dreams (CANON IS DELICIOUS)

According to rottentomatoes.com, "The Last Airbender" has a freshness rating of 7%, and even the "fresh" reviews, are not very good. Meanwhile, "Eclipse" has a freshness rating of 51%. And some time back, M. Night Shyamalan said that the first "Twilight" movie was his favorite movie of that year. (See here http://blog.reelloop.com/9552/news/night-shyamalan-expresses-interest-breaking-dawn-big-fan-twilight/)

So, the question becomes, did M. Night Shyamalan deliberately go out of his way to create a racist, sexist, and all around terrible movie, in a perverse desire to make sure that "Eclipse" would be number one at the box office this weekend? It's certainly worth a moment of thought. BUT, only a moment of thought.

Hah! Good question, indeed. I'm going to go with, no, he just sucks, though. :D

Yeah, Hanlon's Razor is probably for the best.

It's possible! He is a Twilol fan after all, and they're not know for their brainpower.

Hey, you can't make fun of the fans...what the hell am I saying, of course you can! XD

That is a good question. But I'm going with no. Maybe he was trying to emulate Twilol's faily elements and succeeded in that venture a little too well.

...I think that's the best explanation I've heard thus far. Very good indeed.

I'd recently managed to delude myself into forgetting that this movie ever existed. Thank you for bringing me back to reality.

Don't worry; with the way this movie's been critically panned, and very very likely to fail at the Box Office, it won't be long before it may as well have not existed in the first place.

You know, now that you mention it, the racist part seem weird considering that Shyamalan is himself Indian...so why would he cast Indians as the bad guy...(unless he is a huge Fire nation fan).

Actually, I am kind of torn. On one hand I dislike pretty much everything about this movie and am glad to see none of its "justifications" work out...on the other hand, this is what average people are going to associate with the franchise. Not the awesome show, but the bad movie. Not to mention, since media executive types seem to think that live action movies are the pinnacle of art, I wonder if this failure will hurt chances to continue the Avatar franchise.

It is very, very weird. But the fact is that the casting was racist, and he's been "defending" it for some time now.

That does suck, big time. I would have loved for there to be a kick-ass movie adaptation that respected the source material, but quite frankly I had no hope from the beginning; even before M. Night Shyamalan was brought in, the fact that it was to be Live-Action was enough to convince me that this was going to be nothing but suck. Unfortunately, I was right.

All we can hope for is that the failure of the movie does not adversely effect the upcoming Avatar: The Legend of Korra.

Personally, I never got what the big deal was about a movie. A novel or comic adaption could have done things from a new angle, but a movie is just a shorter show.
Plus, I always felt many of the show's visuals would be hard to translate into live action.

On the note of public opinion, I have been reading reviews (first off, I was expecting bad, but not that bad...), while Ebert's and reviews from geeky corners of the internet have blasted the movie for its stupid changes, a lot of the mainstream reviews take potshots at the show (or at least what they think the show is like based off the movie and assumptions about kid's shows), and seem willing to blame many of the movie's failings off the fact it was based off a kid's show.

Korra should be too far along in production to be affected, but anything after that...

Even worse than that, his daughter liked Avatar because Katara looked like her. Then he goes and casts a white girl to play katara in the movie. He truly is a tool.

yeah, he kept saying this bullshit about how no Inuit girls looked like Katara, blatantly ignoring the part where Nicola Peltz, AKA white as it gets, looked even less like Katara than anyone else...seriously, what a prick, I wouldn't be surprised if his daughter ended up disowning him.

This is just me reading tea leaves, but Mike and Bryan were very quiet about the movie all this time. My take is that they've been keeping their mouth to avoid violating any non-disclosure agreement badmouthing the movie.

Yeah, This movie sucked, and it sucked hard, and I have a hard time assuming that M Night did not do it on purpous, but my conspirasy is that he's pulling a Uwe Bowell.

Apparently, if a certain book about him is to be believed, he...he pretty much does what the voices in his head tell him to do...without question??? Seriously man, WTF?

I mean, it's one of two things; either M. Night's making it up, in which case he's an insensitive prick, or he's being serious, in which case he needs some medical attention, right the fuck now, mental diseases are serious!
